A profile of youth justice in Canada

Abstract

This publication presents information on youth crime, from the commission of the crime through to sentencing of the young offender. It includes information on rates of crime; characteristics of young offenders and their victims; the use of alternative measures; youth court cases; youth corrections; and repeat offenders. There is also a discussion of various factors that may influence the level of youth crime (e.g. socio-economic status, level of education, family history, etc.). The report attempts to answer some of the main questions related to youth crime.
