Within the next ten working days, Publishing and Depository Services (PDS) will be mailing copies of the new Depository Library Agreement to all Canadian depository libraries. The Agreement will be sent on a mini CD ROM accompanied by a printed covering letter in English and French. Any library experiencing technical difficulties with the CD will be sent print copies of the documents upon request.

Depository libraries will be asked to print and sign two copies of the agreement in the language of their choice and mail these to PDS. These copies will be signed by the Director of PDS and one signed original will be returned to the depository library by mail.

The CDs and covering letter will be sent addressed to the "Chief Librarian". The deadline for returning signed copies will be July 1, 2009

Depository libraries outside of Canada, such as national libraries, exchange libraries and educational libraries will not be receiving this agreement for signing. Go to top of pageWeb Integration Project (WIP): Removal of Client Care Module

March 11, 2009

The On-line Client Care Module was originally launched in October 2006. The purpose of this application was to provide on-line access to all those clients who had an account with Publishing and Depository Services (PDS), essentially providing account information 24/7. Customers were asked to register themselves through the On-Line Client Centre where they would receive a client number in order to access account information on-line and change personal account information at will.

Unfortunately, it has become increasingly clear that the Client Care Module is not being sufficiently utilized by our clients. Although PDS has availed itself of every opportunity to promote the use of this Module, all efforts to encourage further use have been unsuccessful to date. There are considerable costs involved in the conversion of this Module to the Web Integration Project (WIP) which incorporates Common Look and Feel as well as migration to our financial system, SIGMA, and PDS cannot justify incurring these expenses.

The first production release of WIP was planned for March 12, 2009 and one of the changes planned in Release 4.7 is the removal of the Client Care Module. Please note this release is being postponed until further notice. Information on the new schedule will be made available in the next few days.

Go to top of pageWeb Integration Project replaces Website Integration Initiative

March 11, 2009

Driven by Treasury Board’s requirement for all Government of Canada web (Internet) sites to be Common Look and Feel (CLF2) compliant, the Publishing and Depository Services (PDS) directorate had identified a requirement to integrate the Depository Services Program (DSP) and Publications Web Sites into a single CLF2 compliant web site.  The Website Integration Initiative (WSI) was initiated in 2007, with the objective being to combine information and services into a single access point web site and to incorporate the content from the old and non-CLF2compliant DSP Web Site into the Publications Site.

However, as a result of unforeseen technical and content-related issues, a decision was made not to implement this initiative in 2008, but to concentrate business and technical resources on a single project effort, namely the Web Integration Project (WIP).  WIP combines the activities and efforts from both the WSI and CLF2 projects into a single project which will deliver a CLF2-compliant integrated Publications Web Site in March 2010.

The Web Integration Project is well underway. The first production release was planned for March 12, 2009. Unfortunately, this release has to be postponed until further notice. Additional details regarding the new schedule will be conveyed to you in the next few days. In the meantime, the DSP website will remain as an active production website until the integrated, CLF2-compliant Publications website is launched in 2010.
