Summarizes the overarching scientific questions in subatomic physics. Explains the context – both Canadian and global – in which this science is carried out, describes the Canadian subatomic physics community, including its demographics and recent successes, and outlines the LRP Committee’s vision for the community’s evolution over the lifetime of this plan. Addresses the economic impact of subatomic physics in Canada, with particular attention to the training of highly qualified personnel. Explains the complexity of subatomic physics funding and support through a discussion of the many different agencies and institutions that participate in subatomic physics in Canada. Addresses in detail the NSERC funding scenarios that the long-range planning committee was asked to address. Contains the conclusions, including the detailed recommendations of the committee.
