This monograph provides population-based health information on 22 communities in Africa and Asia. Each profile includes a summary of the site’s physical geography and population characteristics, a description of demographic surveillance system procedures, and a summary of the outputs from the surveillance, including demographic indicators. The objective is to supplement traditional sources of health information to enable policy-makers to set more realistic health priorities, allocate resources more efficiently and equitably, and develop and implement better health programs.
