Inmates in correctional facilities around the world bear a disproportionate burden of illness related to infectious diseases compared with the general population. This report provides the first analysis of infectious diseases data obtained through health surveillance in Canadian federal correctional institutions and represents an effort to capture and record information on communicable diseases affecting federal inmates. Diseases covered include HIV, Hepatitis C, Hepatitis B, and sexually transmitted diseases. Includes tables, figures, and references.
