520 |aThe Atlantic Halibut stock has a history of overfishing that predates the time series used in the stock assessment model (i.e. prior to 1970). SCAL model estimates of spawning stock biomass (SSB) levels between 1970 and 2013 indicate that the halibut stock has increased from a depleted state, observed in the early 1990s, to the present. The spawning stock biomass in 2013 is estimated to be 6,668 mt (SE=234 mt); the highest in the time series, and the legal-sized (greater than 81 cm since 1994) biomass (B=23,479 mt, SE=664 mt) is well above all other estimates.
