“Acrolein is a herbicide and slimicide registered for control of vegetation in irrigation canals and control of bacteria and fungi in oilfield water injection systems. There are four products containing acrolein that are currently registered in Canada under the authority of the Pest Control Products Act, including one technical grade active ingredient, a commercial class product, and two restricted class end-use products. After a re-evaluation of acrolein, Health Canada’s Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA), under the authority of the Pest Control Products Act, is granting continued registration of products containing acrolein for sale and use in Canada. An evaluation of available scientific information found that products containing acrolein do not present unacceptable risks to human health or the environment”--p. 1.
