"This publication provides information on the assets and liabilities of the Canadian Public Sector on the basis of the Financial Management System (FMS). Since the accounting systems of the various governments in Canada reflect their structures and data needs, the presentation and contents of their financial statements can vary widely. Accordingly, the financial data published in public accounts, budgets, estimates and other records of individual governments are not directly comparable. The FMS uses these data sources, classifies them on a consistent basis, and presents financial information for governments that is comparable between governments and over a period of time." -- Preface.
