"Gatineau Park is an important natural area in the heart of Canada’s Capital Region. The National Capital Commission (NCC) is responsible for protecting this unique park, in collaboration with partners who are devoted to its conservation. The Park’s 361 square kilometres contain a representative sample of the rich and diverse natural landscapes of the Canadian Shield. It is an area where natural, cultural and historical resources are preserved and protected, and where visitors can enjoy a range of recreational activities that respect the environment. Gatineau Park’s cross-country ski network, which covers 200 kilometres of trails, is also one of the largest in North America"--2014/2015 edition.
