520 |a“The Targeted Geoscience Initiative (TGI-4) is a collaborative federal geoscience program that provides industry with the next generation of geoscience knowledge and innovative techniques to better detect buried mineral deposits, thereby reducing some of the risks of exploration. Samples from vent complexes of the Tom and Nidd sedimentary exhalative (SEDEX) deposits (Selwyn Basin) are documented. Stable isotope analyses (C and O) of mineral separates and bulk geochemistry indicate the influence of both deep and shallow processes on the chemistry of the hydrothermal fluid. Evidence for the breakdown of organic matter is preserved in highly negative and positive d13C values. Rare earth element profiles (REE) display positive Eu anomalies and negative Ce anomalies, indicating the mixing of a deep, hot, reducing fluid with an oxidizing fluid (seawater). Discounting Pb, Zn and Ba (ore components), vent samples have enrichments above upper crustal values for Au, Ag, As, Cd, Cu, Ge, In, Mo, Sb, Sn and Ta. Notably, Au enrichments in two samples from Tom are in excess of 100ppb Au"--Summary provided by publisher.
