"This paper develops a benchmarking method adapted to the following particular situation: The annual benchmarks are not available for every year; and a new survey which does not give rise to annual discrepancies is used for the time periods following the estimation interval. The benchmarked series obtained under the method proposed is as parallel as possible to the original series over the interval of the old survey and leads to the values of the new survey without discontinuity in the movement. The method could also be applied backwards when it is necessary to keep the estimates unchanged prior to a certain date. "--Abstract.
