Assessment of the Estuary and northern Gulf of St. Lawrence (areas 13 to 17, 12A, 12B, 12C and 16A) snow crab stocks in 2016 .: Fs70-6/2017-020E-PDF
“The snow crab fishery in the Estuary and the northern Gulf of St. Lawrence began in the late 1960s. The fishery experienced a boom from 1979 to 1985, and a management approach based on the TAC (total allowable catch) was gradually introduced between 1985 and 1995. There are nine management areas (13 to 17, 16A, 12A, 12B and 12C). The DFO Fisheries and Aquaculture Management Branch, Quebec Region, requested a stock status assessment and a science advisory report to set the 2017 quotas. A scientific peer review was conducted on February 14 and 15, 2017. Participants included representatives from DFO Science and Fisheries and Aquaculture Management, the fishing industry and First Nations"--Context, p. .
