"This publication brings together a wide range of historical consumer price indexes with major series extending back to the year 1913 and indexes for individual items for the period 1949-61. It also covers the several variations in the classification of consumer price index components, a comparison of the movement of 1937-38 weighted and 1947-48 weighted indexes over the period 1949-61, a commodities-services classification back to 1935 and a comparison of the weighting diagrams of the 1937-38, 1947-48 and 1957 weighted indexes. In addition, the appendix contains in Table 2 a retail price series which gives some indication of price movement for the period 1900-13"--Preface.
