520 |a"The chemical, 2-(thiocyanomethylthio)benzothiazole (TCMTB) is a fungicide registered for use as an antisapstain chemical to protect dimensioned lumber during transport to export markets. TCMTB is highly toxic to fish and has a 96 hour flow through fish bioassay LC50 of approximately 15 µg/L (parts per billion or ppb) for chinook salmon in freshwater and 6 ppb in sea water. The leaching of this chemical from treated wood was monitored during rainfall events at a sawmill located on the tidally influenced section of the North Arm of the Fraser River from October 1989 to January 1990. The objectives of this study were: 1) to determine the concentrations of TCMTB and its degradation products in rainwater leachate from surface treated lumber; 2) to determine the concentrations of TCMTB and its degradation products in the Fraser River adjacent to storm water outfalls, which drain TCMTB treated lumber storage yards"--Executive summary, page i.
