Content of article

Starting April 1, 2014, Publishing and Depository Services (PDS) will be providing access to electronic publications only. We will no longer be selling or distributing print or other hard–copy publications. We will no longer be responsible for managing Crown Copyright and Licensing for the Government of Canada.

As a result, certain interactive features on our Web site will be removed over the course of the next 6 months.

Read on for a brief description of these changes and their affect on our clients:

Ordering publications using the Shopping Cart

The ability to order hard–copy publications online will be removed from our Web site in 2014.

Who does this affect? All of our clients

The last day for ordering hard–copy publications will be March 7, 2014. This will allow us time to ship and invoice your products before we officially go completely electronic on April 1. All customers will continue to have the convenience of accessing our vast collection of Government of Canada electronic publications whenever and wherever they like—free of charge!

Ordering from the Weekly Checklist

The ability to order hard–copy publications from the Weekly Checklist (WCL) will end on January 31, 2014.

Who does this affect? Libraries participating in the Depository Services Program

While our electronic WCL of Government of Canada publications will continue, the last paper version of the WCL will be 13–51. This will also be the last online WCL from which clients may order publications. The ordering period for this checklist and all previous checklists will be reduced such that it does not extend beyond January 31, 2014. WCL orders received after January 31, 2014 will not be processed. While our official agreements with Depository Libraries will no longer be active, we will continue to maintain and develop our online collection of Government of Canada publications in electronic format.

Applying for Crown Copyright Clearance

The ability to apply for Crown Copyright clearance through our Web site will be removed in November 2013.

Who does this affect? Anyone requiring permission to adapt, reproduce, revise or translate Government of Canada works

PDS is currently winding down operations related to Crown Copyright and licensing. Starting November 18, 2013, you will need to contact departments directly for Crown Copyright and licensing requests related to their information products.
