This study examines international efforts to regulate work that deviates from the standard employment relationship. Part One considers the role of employment norms by examining the development and deployment of the standard employment relationship and analyzing the gender contract on which it is based. Part Two considers how international labour standards intersect with changing and continuous gender relations. Part Three provides a statistical portrait of precarious work in Australia, Canada, and the United States.
