Population structure of Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua) in the Newfoundland and Labrador area determined from genetic variation / Terry D. Beacham … [et al.]. : Fs70-1/2000-099E-PDF
The primary objective of this study was to use microsatellite variation to investigate population structure of cod around Newfoundland and Labrador and in particular to examine the degree of genetic differentiation between inshore-spawning populations and offshore-spawning populations to determine whether they constitute separate stocks. The study also examines whether there are distinct "bay stocks" of cod, i.e., is there genetic differentiation among cod populations in neighboring bays along the northeastern coast and southern coasts of Newfoundland? Finally, the study evaluates the utility of using genetic variation for estimation of stock composition in mixed-stock fisheries.
