Report of activities for the geology and mineral potential of the Chantrey - Thelon area : GEM-2 Thelon tectonic zone project / [by] R.G. Berman ... [et al.]. : M183-2/7693E-PDF

The Thelon tectonic zone project addresses scientific questions relevant to the mineral exploration industry in NTS map sheets 76H and 76I. Bedrock mapping mostly along two transects in 76H resulted in recognition of (1) nine crustal domains with distinct aeromagnetic and lithological characteristics, (2) a number of kinematically diverse high-strain zones, (3) 7 new gossans. Samples were collected for geochemical and geochronological analysis. Magnetotelluric data obtained from 2 transects correlate with crustal domains. Reconnaissance surficial geology maps were tested by ground-truthing and aerial observations. Cross-cutting striae and glacially-molded bedrock surfaces indicate northward regional ice flow shifted northwestward. Till samples were collected along two 80-km long transects and to follow up on geochemical anomalies identified in 2012. Stream silt and water samples were collected from 85 sites in northern NTS 76I and 7 sites in 76H as a followup to a 2012 survey.
