"Diversity in the military is a complex subject, both conceptually and in terms of its more practical, managerial implications. It represents one of the most significant and difficult challenges for human resource management that military leaders have faced over the past two or three decades. Greater diversity in recruitment, development, and employment has challenged traditional military institutional norms, values, beliefs, and attitudes. Human resource philosophies, policies, programs, and practices have been adapted and revised. This volume adds to the accumulating evidence of the progress that has been made in understanding and managing diversity in the armed forces and the problems that remain unresolved.
