"This evaluation of four major activities of the Inuit Culture and Linguistics sub-component of the Northern Program, DIAND was prepared under contract with the Evaluation Branch, Corporate Policy, DIAND, in accordance with the terms of reference. The clients for the study are the Deputy Minister, DIAND and the ADM, Northern Program. Direction for the study was provided by an advisory committee. The Culture and Linguistic Section is a sub-component of the cultural component of the Northern Program. It carries out a variety of activities of which four were of primary concern to this evaluation: administering contributions under the Cultural and Educational Centres Program; language development; provision of translation services; and the publication of Inuktitut magazine. Certain other activities of the sub-component, particularly involvement with Inuit broadcasting (now administered by the Department of the Secretary of State) and administration of the Cultural Grants Program, were not evaluated, as was recommended in the Evaluation Assessment Report and as reflected in the Evaluation Study terms of reference."--Purpose.
