"Measures of income inequality and polarization are non-linear statistics which depend on quantiles and the distribution function. Their variances are not expressible in simple formulae and one has to rely on approximate variance estimation techniques. The performance of different methods of variance estimation was investigated empirically in a simulation study based on the Canadian Survey of Consumer Finance. We concentrated on the accuracy, precision and the normal confidence interval properties of the variance estimators"--Abstract.
