The effect of a water diversion on a eutrophic lake / T.P. Murphy. : En13-5/85-168E-PDF

"Water and nutrient fluxes into Chain Lake, in the dry interior of British Columbia, were monitored to determine why the Shinish Water Diversion was not reducing eutrophication. Sediment-phosphorous release during periods of low waterflow was not changed effectively by the diversions's flushing effect. The results indicate that water diversions that are built to reduce eutrophication should be designed after an intensive summer monitoring program. Before enlarging the capacity of the Shinish Water Diversion, other options such as sediment dredging of Chain Lake should be evaluated"--Management perspective.
