5203 |a"A field measurement of sediment loads in the St. Clair and Detroit Rivers was carried out as a part of the Upper Great Lakes Connecting Channels Study related to the contaminants transport in these rivers. Three transects in the St. Clair River and two transects in the Detroit River were sampled for bed load, suspended load, average flow velocity and flow rate. The measured data indicate that the sediment transport in these rivers is controlled by the sediment supply rather than the carrying capacity of the flows. The data collected in this study are being used to calculate the division of the total contaminant load among water, the suspended sediment and bed sediment"--Abstract.
