5203 |a"A semi-analytical model is developed which accounts for flow and solute transport through a two-dimensional network of fractures. Matrix diffusion, retardation, and hydrodynamic dispersion are also considered. The model is derived by application of the Laplace transform to the governing flow and transport equations for each fracture element. The resulting ordinary differential equations are linked using robust descriptions of mass conservation at the fracture intersections. Hydraulic head and solute concentration are determined in real time by numerically inverting the forward transform. The model was verified using a formal mass balance. To illustrate the use of the model, applications were undertaken in which matrix diffusion was studied in a theoretical fracture network and using a network in which the conditions in a known field setting, were simulated"--Abstract.
