National Population Health Survey overviewAbstract This is an overview of the first release of data from Statistics Canada's National Population Health Survey (NPHS). The NPHS has been designed to measure the health status of Canadians, and in so doing, expand knowledge of the determinants of health. This overview illustrates the variety of information available by presenting data on perceived health, chronic conditions, injuries, depression, smoking, alcohol consumption, physical activity, consultations with medical professionals, use of medications, and use of alternative medicine. A section on immigrant health shows the potential for analyzing sub-populations. The National Population Health Survey was first conducted in 1994/95.
