The aims are to describe variation among communities in children’s cognitive skills, behaviour, and physical health and well-being, describe the extent of variation among communities in key family background factors, such as family income and parental education, describe the extent of variation among communities in several aspects of family life, such as parental engagement and family functioning, describe the extent of variation among communities in assessments of neighbourhood quality and social support, and determine the extent to which these community factors are related to children’s cognitive, behavioural and health outcomes; and summarize the findings and provide concluding comments.
