The Tench is a large minnow species that has been introduced to Canada and is established in several locations in British Columbia and Quebec. Tench has been identified by Fisheries and Oceans Canada’s Centre of Expertise for Aquatic Risk Assessment as being a species that may require a detailed level risk assessment. This biological synopsis, a required component of the risk assessment, includes a description, distribution, biology, natural history, human use, impacts and management practices of the Tench.
