This paper explores the innovation process in communication, financial and technical business services, also referred to as dynamic service industries. The purpose of this research is to understand the characteristics that innovative firms share and that set them apart from other businesses. Statistics Canada's Survey of Innovation, 1996, was the main source of information used to develop a profile of these firms.
