Norris - La Palme : SA2-212/1990-PDF
Robert La Palme-- artist, educator and caricaturist for such newspapers as Le Canada (1943--1950), Le Devoir (1950--1959), La Presse (1959--1961) and the Financial Times (1964)--knew the importance of humour in our daily lives. La Palme's style is most tellingly revealed in his portraiture, in the facial features, expressions and particular traits of the people he caricatured. Len Norris, best known for his work as editorial cartoonist with the Vancouver Sun from 1950 to 1989, presented the world through the eyes of the ordinary citizen--a reflection of the mild-mannered, conservative opinions of the average Canadian. Adopting this viewpoint allowed Norris to emphasize the absurd aspects of particular political situations.
