The morphology, evolution, and paleoecology of the highly successful Silurian atrypide spire-bearers is described in detail, including the documentation of several new species. For the first time, the interior structure of the complete lophophore support, the brachidium (crura, spiralia, and jugal processes), is reconstructed for the genera Atrypina, Oglupes, Plectatrypa, Spirigerina, Septatrypa, and Reticulatrypa, as well as for other well-known and for new species. Contains numerous detailed illustrations and plates.
