In March 2010, the Standing Committee on the Status of Women (hereinafter the Committee) passed a motion to undertake a study on violence against Aboriginal women. The Committee heard from many witnesses, including representatives of Aboriginal organizations, academics, service providers, and Aboriginal women themselves, with the goal of: Gaining a better understanding of the extent and nature of the violence; Examining the root causes of the violence; and Recommending solutions in consultation and with the full cooperation of Aboriginal women.
