Potential interactions between populations of Softshell Clams (Mya arenaria) and Eastern Oysters (Crassostrea virginica) in temperate estuaries, a literature review / by M.-J. Abgrall, ... [et al.]. : Fs97-6/2892E-PDF

Summarizes results from studies on Softshell Clams and Eastern Oysters. The main objective of the review is to provide a comprehensive outlook of potential interactions between wild and cultivated bivalves in temperate estuaries. The review first describes the biology (e.g.: life cycle, feeding habits) and ecology (e.g.: habitat, distribution, competition, predation) of both species. Effects from pathogens are also reviewed. The review the focuses on potential interactions between natural populations of the two species. Potential interactions between cultivated Eastern Oyster and wild Softshell Clam populations are finally presented.
