Following the breaching of a dyke on the Englishman River estuary in 1979, surveys were begun to determine the distribution and abundance of birds using the estuary. The first surveys took place weekly from 17 June 1979 through 29 June 1980. A second survey was begun because of the controversy over a proposed development on the estuary in 1988. The surveys were conducted at least twice monthly from 3 November 1988 through 24 May1989.--Abstract
