This report (volume 1) and the Conservation Manual (volume 2) are designed to support sustainable land use decisions and to encourage wildlife conservation. These sensitive ecosystems are not the only areas of ecological importance; a variety of other habitats, such as aquatic ecosystems and younger forests also are important to the conservation of wildlife. Many of the sites identified by the SEI are at high risk of conversion to other land uses or degradation by human use and invasion by non-native vegetation. With so few of these rare and fragile ecosystems left in the study area, the need to treat seriously every one of the sites identified, and to fully evaluate all possible land use options before initiating any change, is critical.--Abstract
