520 |aThe Gully is a spectacular one-of-a-kind canyon ecosystem on Canada’s east coast containing a remarkable diversity of marine life. The designation of the Gully as a Marine Protected Area (MPA) in 2004 marked a pivotal moment for oceans management in Atlantic Canada, resulting in the dedicated protection of the diverse marine life found in the canyon. This includes vulnerable cold-water corals, many different species of fish and mammals, and an endangered population of northern bottlenose whales. The purpose of this report is to highlight progress and summarize the efforts made with respect to meeting the objectives set out for the MPA. Particular attention is devoted to exciting and informative research collaborations, management activities, and outreach undertaken since 2004.
