The plants selected for inclusion in this publication comprise grasses, herbs, legumes, poisonous plants, rushes and sedges, trees and shrubs. The habitat, growth characters, nutritive values, palatability, reaction to grazing and drought tolerance of each are described and line drawings are added to aid identification. Most species described occur throughout the prairie provinces enclosed by a semicircle which has as its base the international boundary between Canada and the United States. Its western edge runs close to the Rocky Mountains and the Red River in Manitoba delineates its eastern boundary. Key to preferred common names.
