This book is an interpretive study and photographic record of the architecture of government-built buildings in Canada’s first 100 years. It contains 194 black-and-white photos and 8 colour plates. Buildings include post offices, federal office buildings, drill halls, hospitals, quarantine stations, experimental farms, and research institutions. These works of architecture are interpreted by reference to the changing styles and technologies of Canadian architecture and the demands of the federal government’s policies, programs, and priorities.
