This report examines concerns before and during pregnancy and during the first year of life. The first part of the report discusses low birth weight and the many problems associated with it. The second part deals with issues of healthy child development and related issues affecting parents and children. The emphasis throughout the report is on interventions which have proved to be successful in Canada or other countries in addressing the most serious problems facing families at these stages in their lives.--Page 1
