This report summarizes highlights of the substantive work of the Policy Research Initiative (PRI) over the past two year... The first phase of the Initiative, during the latter half of 1996 and early 1997, produced two reports synthesizing our knowledge about the pressure points likely to test Canada in 2005. The original report focused mainly on domestic challenges, and a follow-up report delved more deeply into the international. The second phase, of which this report is a distillation, made a start on addressing the knowledge gaps identified in the first phase as important to responding to the issues expected to preoccupy Canadians early in the new millennium.--Foreword
