This report discusses the promises and challenges of participatory justice—alternatives to the justice system such as victim–offender mediation, sentencing circles, and community mediation. It discusses both the current experience of participatory justice in Canada and its future, presenting best practices and guiding principles for the design of participatory processes. The report concludes with recommendations for developing and improving participatory justice in Canada.
