This paper summarizes the current state of knowledge on the nature and extent of obesity; the impact of obesity; a population health perspective on the determinants of obesity; and the effectiveness of strategies for addressing obesity and its determinants. Based on a synthesis of evidence collected from research studies and program and policy papers, the report identifies priorities for future policy-relevant research and proposes interventions for reducing population obesity levels.
