The National Pollutant Release Inventory (NPRI) is a legislated inventory of pollutants released into the environment. In 2002, 1053 facilities reported on-site and off-site final disposal of pollutants; totals were close to 200 000 tonnes on site and 44 000 tonnes off site. This report details the percentage of these disposals that went to landfills, land treatment, and underground injection; the pollutants disposed of in the largest quantities; and the industrial sectors disposing of the largest quantities of pollutants.
