The 40-year mark is an appropriate occasion to reflect upon the origins and development of the Order of Military Merit. It is important to tell the story of the Order today, to honour those who have been admitted to it since 1972, and to better place the Order into the context of the overall Canadian honours system as the premier mark of recognition for outstanding military service.
