The National Child Benefit : what it means for Canadian familiesMP43-400/1999E-PDF

This pamphlet explains how the National Child Benefit (NCB) is expected to impact the lives of low-income Canadian children and their families, and also gives first-person accounts of how it has positively affected their lives. By increasing the Canadian Child Tax Credit, and adding the NCB supplement, the Federal Government (in conjunction with provinces, territories and First Nations) expects to ease the transition between welfare and employment, and increase financial benefits, support programs and services available to low-income Canadian families in an attempt to reduce child poverty. It also outlines the NCB's intention of keeping Canadians informed through Progress Reports, and sketches future program objectives in a section entitled Next Steps.
