This report presents an overview of oceanographic conditions in the Newfoundland region during 1998, with a comparison to the long-term average conditions based on historical data. Where possible the long-term means were standardized to a base period from 1961-1990 in accordance with the convention of the World Meteorological Organization and recommendation of the North Atlantic Fisheries Organization's (NAFO) Scientific Council.
