Migration of Atlantic salmon kelts (Salmo salar L.) in relation to sea water temperature in Newfoundland, 1998 / D.G. Reddin … [et al.].: Fs70-1/1999-85E-PDF

This paper describes the results of the migration of salmon kelts in relation to sea water temperature from three rivers in Newfoundland. The study was conducted with tagged salmon kelts as they migrated past fish counting sites and into the sea. Recovery of the data storage tags (DSTs) required the return of the tags from commercial fishers or anglers to the enumeration facility where the tags were originally attached to the salmon kelts. Because counting facilities are usually placed a short distance upstream from the sea, the temperature records will contain freshwater, estuarine and sea events.
