Status of Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar L.) stock of three selected rivers in salmon fishing area 14A, 1998 / C.C. Mullins, D. Caines and S.L. Lowe.: Fs70-1/1999-101E-PDF
Salmon stocks of Lomond River, Torrent River and Western Arm Brook exceeded conservation requirements in 1998 as in every year since 1992 due to increasing small and large salmon returns and increasing proportion of large salmon. In contrast to the other two rivers, the returns to Torrent River have shown an increasing trend since the 1970s, possibly due to the successful colonisation of a major portion of the watershed with adult salmon and early high survival of juvenile salmon in the freshwater environment. The potential for future growth in these stocks is evidenced by improvements seen in juvenile densities and in smolt production on Western Arm Brook.
