Survey design considerations for Pacific cod in Hecate Strait / Alan Sinclair.: Fs70-1/1999-196E-PDF
This research document reviews aspects of the Hecate Strait groundfish assemblage survey design that may be modified to improve Pacific cod estimates while not compromising the main objectives of the survey. This included an analysis of past surveys and commercial fisheries data from the 1996-99 observer program. the document contains a general description of the recent fisheries in all areas, the results of two meetings held with trawl fisherman to discuss the status of Pacific cod fisheries, a description of the groundfish assemblage survey results in Hecate Strait (1984-1998), a description of the observer data from Hecate Strait (1996-1999), and a comparison between the two in June of 1996 and 1998.
