Diseases of lowbush blueberry and their identification / [Hildebrand, P.D., Renderos, W.E., and R.W. Delbridge].: A59-37/2016E-PDF

The lowbush blueberry plant (Vaccinium angustifolium, V. myrtilloides) is susceptible to many diseases, some of which are more serious than others. Several diseases require intense management while others, despite being present annually, do not significantly impact the crop and do not require any management efforts. An accurate diagnosis of a disease and its cause is therefore essential in making wise decisions on implementing control measures. The purpose of this guide is to aid in the identification of diseases commonly found in lowbush blueberry fields in Eastern Canada and to assist in disease management decisions. Time of symptom development is based on observations in Nova Scotia, and so anticipated times of symptom development in other provinces may need to be adjusted to account for seasonal differences. Discussions on diseases in this guide are arranged in categories of importance with those of high importance presented first.
