520 |aOverall, the available information suggests that many, though not all, offenders with FASD and other neuropsychological disorders may have difficulty adjusting to the correctional environment and benefiting from conventional programs because of deficits in executive functioning, memory, attention, and adaptive behaviour. Although there are several existing reviews of interventions for individuals with FASD, these reviews have primarily focused on the needs of children and youth. This body of research does show some promising initial results for interventions for children with FASD. Much less is known, however, of promising interventions for adult offenders with FASD and related neuropsychological disorders. Thus, the purpose of the present study was to provide a comprehensive summary of the existing literature relevant to promising practices for adult offenders with central nervous system disorders. Although the focus of the review is on interventions for individuals with FASD, the approaches described are appropriate for adults with any central nervous system disorder affecting cognition and behaviour.
